The city: Global and local

I this my street?

According to the popular Spanish saying, the world is a handkerchief. The feeling that the world is becoming small and homogeneous is widespread. The term "glocal" is used to indicate the mixing of global and local elements. Their interaction has direct effects on local identities. Sometimes the reaction is a rejection of the new and a reinforcement of the traditional, but at other times the changes that arrive are perceived as a factor for improvement.

We propose to reflect on some of the effects that these changes have brought about in our cities: architectural standardisation, gentrification, changing mobility patterns or new work cultures. All of them coexist with local elements that are perceived as traditional in Valencian cities.
