ETNOMUSIC 2022. Folk and World Music Festival.
XIX Edition.
Under the theme "Roots and Wings", ETNOMUSIC the folk and world music festivall, one of the L'ETNO trademarks, comes back anfter the pandemic period. For L'ETNO, this means returning to the usual seating capacity, to proximity, and in short, to the warmth to make concerts a moment of encounter and enjoyment.
In this edition we look at a poem by Juan Ramón Giménez, which symbolises the spirit of ETNOMUSIC and characterises the 2022 concert programme: "wings that take root and roots that make us fly, that our own mixes with that of others, that tradition is built with an innovative outlook and that new styles do not lose their origins...".
The festival begins with the instrumentalist, singer and composer Ana Alcaide, an artist in love with instruments from other traditions and cultures, who in her new project Ritual, which arose from a meeting with the Iranian singer Reza Shayesteh, proposes a mystical journey, a hymn to the power of connection through everyday rituals.
Besarabia revisits us after their presence in 2017 with their second album Animal Republic, a look from Valencia towards the music of the Mediterranean and the Balkans. Without leaving the eastern Mediterranean, the members of the Valencian group Ataxía - a Greek word meaning disorder or mischief - bring together a repertoire based on traditional Greek pieces.
Momi Maiga is a young Senegalese 24-year-old virtuoso of the kora, a very popular instrument in Senegal. At ETNOMUSIC he will present the project Nio, which means soul in Mandinka, his native language, together with the Catalan percussionist Aleix Tobias, the cellist Marçal Ayats and the Mexican violinist Carlos Monfort.
In 2022 the festival will have its ETNOMUSIC PERIFÉRIC, a section launched last year that is committed to broadening audiences and proposing new formats. This year's edition features Maui, a singer-songwriter from Utrera who takes the audience to unusual worlds through the kaleidoscope of her songs sung and told; and the French-Moroccan group N3rdistan, which proposes the reformulation of traditional codes with a contemporary vision, mixing hip-hop, rap, electro-rock and traditional Arab melodies.
The festival's programme is completed with a concert for families, a new festival proposal, which this year features the Catalan band Ministrils del Raval, which will offer a musical tale in which traditional dances and songs from the northern Mediterranean will be performed.
Finally, ETNOMUSIC ALS POBLES will be held in the province of Valencia, with the aim of decentralising cultural activities and supporting the longed-for and necessary return to normality of its cultural offerings.
