Ana Alcaide: Ritual

A mystical journey that takes us to other cultures.

Ana Alcaide is a musical explorer of hidden treasures and ancient traditions, who transports us to distant lands, to ancestral times and magical places. The artist proposes an invitation to build bridges between cultures and a call for tolerance, as a vehicle "to reach beauty, dialogue and encounter".

Ritual, the sixth album by this singer from Toledo and player of the nyckelharpa (a traditional instrument of Swedish origin) is conceived as a mystical journey, as a hymn to the connecting power of everyday actions, born of her interest in Persian poetry and her encounter with the Iranian singer Reza Shayesteh.

"The greatness of a small everyday gesture, a place to return to, the smell of musk on my clothes. Sufi mystic verses, sounds of fish patches, dissolving in the purity of a colour. A meeting more than 15 years ago, a foreign city, an intimate and profound journey... The power of RITUAL. The diary of our life is written with the stories of our small daily gestures".

Ana Alcaide (vocals, nyckelharpa, tanbour and atmospheres), Reza Shayesteh (vocals, tanbour, setar and daf), Bill Cooley (ud, psaltery, percussions and atmospheres), Kaveh Sarvarian (ney and tombak), Sandra Rico (dance).

Etnomusic 2022

ETNOMUSIC 2022. Folk and World Music Festival.
XIX Edition.

Under the theme "Roots and Wings", ETNOMUSIC the folk and world music festivall, one of the L'ETNO trademarks, comes back anfter the pandemic period. For L'ETNO, this means returning to the usual seating capacity, to proximity, and in short, to the warmth to make concerts a moment of encounter and enjoyment.

In this edition we look at a poem by Juan Ramón Giménez, which symbolises the spirit of ETNOMUSIC and characterises the 2022 concert programme: "wings that take root and roots that make us fly, that our own mixes with that of others, that tradition is built with an innovative outlook and that new styles do not lose their origins...".

The festival begins with the instrumentalist, singer and composer Ana Alcaide, an artist in love with instruments from other traditions and cultures, who in her new project Ritual, which arose from a meeting with the Iranian singer Reza Shayesteh, proposes a mystical journey, a hymn to the power of connection through everyday rituals.

Besarabia revisits us after their presence in 2017 with their second album Animal Republic, a look from Valencia towards the music of the Mediterranean and the Balkans. Without leaving the eastern Mediterranean, the members of the Valencian group Ataxía - a Greek word meaning disorder or mischief - bring together a repertoire based on traditional Greek pieces.

Momi Maiga is a young Senegalese 24-year-old virtuoso of the kora, a very popular instrument in Senegal. At ETNOMUSIC he will present the project Nio, which means soul in Mandinka, his native language, together with the Catalan percussionist Aleix Tobias, the cellist Marçal Ayats and the Mexican violinist Carlos Monfort.

In 2022 the festival will have its ETNOMUSIC PERIFÉRIC, a section launched last year that is committed to broadening audiences and proposing new formats. This year's edition features Maui, a singer-songwriter from Utrera who takes the audience to unusual worlds through the kaleidoscope of her songs sung and told; and the French-Moroccan group N3rdistan, which proposes the reformulation of traditional codes with a contemporary vision, mixing hip-hop, rap, electro-rock and traditional Arab melodies.

The festival's programme is completed with a concert for families, a new festival proposal, which this year features the Catalan band Ministrils del Raval, which will offer a musical tale in which traditional dances and songs from the northern Mediterranean will be performed.

Finally, ETNOMUSIC ALS POBLES will be held in the province of Valencia, with the aim of decentralising cultural activities and supporting the longed-for and necessary return to normality of its cultural offerings.

The Maestrat on film

Images and a territory. The ghosts of the past confront the present

“El Maestrat Filmat” is a audiovisual project that brings to the present the different views that have been responsible for immortalizing this territory of inland Castelló (the north part of the Valencian country) throughout the last century. A proposal that aims to reflect on the visual imagery of this eminently rural territory. During the project, more than 20 film archive collections from towns such as Albocàsser, Benassal, Catí or Ares del Maestrat have been located and preserved.

This exhibition proposal is an adaptation of this documentary project. In the first part of the visit, the construction of the archive is presented. A constellation of images that show its origin, scope and context of creation, each one with its own characteristics. Discovering these collections will help us rethink their mere existence and reproduction, as well as their importance as documentary (intangible) heritage. Inside we can enjoy an audiovisual installation, a reconstruction of the interactive web documentary “El Maestrat Filmat-La Memòria Rescatada”.

#CapAUnMuseuSostenible

Working towards a more sustainable world.

At L'ETNO we care about the future of the planet. This is why we are working to reduce the impact of our activities on the environment. These are some of the actions we take:

A) Reduction of electricity consumption in the new permanent exhibition. Don't be surprised if you see little light when you enter our exhibition, we are reducing the nimber of lights on when the rooms are empty of visitors. Lights will came up as you walk in.

B) Recycling materials we use. In our daily work we use a wide range of materials (paper, plastic, wood and so on..), some can be recycle. Here are two examples:

Paper: we are proving visitors with recycling points for the brouchures used to explain the exhibition, if you do not want them..leave them there.

Plastic: we advertise our projects using plastic banners..once the project is over we are converting them into nice, cool, bags!....you can buy them in the museum shop or get one free by participating in our contests #EtnoToteBags...go for it!! (we will announce them on our networks).

L'Incontrolat 2022

Exhibition related to the TV show "Tresors amb història".

This is the exhibition production linked to the TV show “Tresors amb Història”, broacasted by the Valencian Public Television, À Punt. The exhibition shows the selection of the one hundred objects that have been appearing during the broadcast of the program. With this project, L'ETNO proposes to reflect into the importance of material culture as a container of memory and an element capable of reflecting personal or collective identity.

TRESORS AMB HISTÒRIA has been produced by L'ETNO in collaboration with the Institut Valencià de Cultura, À Punt and the production companies Sunrise and El Terrat (The Mediapro Studio). It will remain open to the public until the 29th of May, and from June 15 it can be visited at the Museum of Fine Arts in the city of Castelló.

Subjectes diversos

Conferència: Subjectes diversos. Investigació antropològica i Diversitat Funcional

Antropologia i Diversitat Funcional".
